Several Choices of Sore Throat Medications According to the Cause
Before taking strep throat medicine, it’s a good idea to check with your doctor first to find out the cause of the condition you are experiencing. This is done so that the treatment works optimally and you recover faster.

After the doctor has determined the cause of your sore throat, the doctor may prescribe the following strep throat medications:

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
NSAIDs are useful for reducing inflammation in the body while reducing pain. This medicine can also relieve symptoms of fever caused by strep throat.

Several choices of NSAIDs that can be prescribed by doctors to treat sore throat are paracetamol, ibuprofen, and diclofenac.

The use of corticosteroids must be according to the prescription and doctor’s advice. Several types of strep throat drugs that are included in the corticosteroid group are prednisone and prednisolone.

Antibiotics
Not all cases of strep throat need to be treated with antibiotics. The use of this strep throat medication only applies to sore throat caused by bacterial infection.

Giving antibiotics for sore throat also needs to be adjusted to the bacteria causing it. Some examples of antibiotics that your doctor may prescribe include amoxicillin, cefixime, cefadroxil, and azithromycin.

In addition to the drugs above, your doctor may also give you stomach acid relievers, such as antacids, if your sore throat is caused by acid reflux disease.
